Michael Douglas' Son Was a Big Time Meth Dealer

Michael Douglas' son, Cameron, was recently busted at a Manhattan hotel and arrested on the charge of possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute. The drug in question was the synthetic stimulant methamphetamine, also known as crystal meth. According to the feds, Cameron is a big-time meth dealer who has sold heaps of the drug in New York since 2006.

Cameron, 30, has raked in tens of thousands of dollars through his illegal operation, selling whole pounds of meth to one informant.
He was busted after allegedly mailing 215 grams of meth to a post office box in a package addressed to "Paul Smith." That was the fictitious name used by an informant, one of three that the feds nabbed and turned against him.

According to the feds, Douglas used code words like "bath salts" and "pastries" to discuss his meth shipments in secretly recorded calls and texts. They also say that one informant introduced him to another as a source of "large quantities of crystal meth."

This is not Cameron's first run-in with the law in regards to drug offenses. He was arrested twice before - in New York in 1999 and California in 2007.

Methamphetamine is a Schedule I drug in the United States. The drug trafficking laws in the US dictate that one charged with trafficking methamphetamine shall be subjected to the mandatory minimums laid out below, which is dependent on the number of offenses and amount of drugs involved:

5 - 49 gms pure or 50 - 499 gms mixture
First Offense: Not less than 5 yrs, and not more than 40 yrs. If death or serious injury, not less than 20 or more than life. Fine of not more than $2 million if an individual, $5 million if not an individual

Second Offense: Not less than 10 yrs, and not more than life. If death or serious injury, life imprisonment. Fine of not more than $4 million if an individual, $10 million if not an individual

50 gms or more pure or 500 gms or more mixture
First Offense:

Not less than 10 yrs, and not more than life. If death or serious injury, not less than 20 or more than life. Fine of not more than $4 million if an individual, $10 million if not an individual.

Second Offense: Not less than 20 yrs, and not more than life. If death or serious injury, life imprisonment. Fine of not more than $8 million if an individual, $20 million if not an individual.

2 or More Prior Offenses: Life imprisonment

Having sent the drugs through the US Mail, that's an additional offense that will add on even more years to whatever penalty he receives.

No matter what his situation is, the feds have been watching him and building their case against him now for years. He's likely to be imprisoned for quite a long time when all is said and done.

Cameron, also an actor, is the son of actor Michael Douglas and the grandson of Hollywood legend Kirk Douglas.
