Lady Gaga's New Song "Judas" Upsets Catholics; Did Lady Gaga Sell Her Soul to the Devil?
Like Madonna before her, Lady Gaga is making a mockery of the Catholic religion in her new song and video entitled, "Judas." The 25-year-old's song was leaked online Friday and the lyrics have quickly angered many in the religious community. Others, such as this Catholic, also wonder if she has sold her soul to Satan and this is her public proclamation of such a move.
Lyrics in the song include:
"I want to love you/but something's pulling me away from you/Jesus is my virtue, and Judas is the demon I cling to/ I'm just a holy fool/ oh baby he's so cruel/ but I'm still in love with Judas, baby."
The forthcoming music video for the song is set to be as equally offensive. In it, Lady Gaga portrays Mary Magdalen while actor Normal Reedus stars as Judas.
The Catholic League for Religious and Civil Rights is upset by the lyrics about the apostle that betrayed Jesus. The League's president, Bill Donohue, said:
"This is a stunt. People have real talent, and then there is Lady Gaga. Lady Gaga tries to continue to shock Catholics and Christians in general: she dresses as a nun ... she swallows the rosary. She has now morphed into a caricature of herself."
She is trying to rip off Christian idolatry to shore up her talentless, mundane and boring performances. Maybe if she had more talent we'd be more offended. She has gone to the well too many times,"
Gaga, born Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta, was raised in the Catholic faith and attended Manhattan's Convent of the Sacred Heart as a teenager.
Unfortunately the stunt she's pulling isn't original at all. Madonna did it last century. She also sold her soul to the devil. If she really wants to break new ground in pissing off a religion, Gaga should mock Islam in her next song.
