'Last Legion' Will Please Fans of 'Rome' and 'Excalibur'

Still depressed that HBO discontinued their excellent series 'Rome'? Although the 'Last Legion' doesn't reach the high bar that the HBO show set, it provides enough entertainment for those who found the joy in the now departed show.
Set in the last days of the Roman empire, the film shows the Goths take over the city and exile the last line of the Ceasar dynasty. With the aid of the wizard Ambrosinus (Ben Kingsley) and a soldier Aurelius (Colin Firth) Romulus Augustus Ceaser (Thomas Sangster) manages to escape the island of Capri. A group of rag-tag soldiers set out to find the last legion of the Roman army who have taken residence in Britain.
Along the way, there is many well done action sequences and a story that blends the legend of 'Excalibur' and the legacy of the Roman empire.
While the film wasn't well received by critics when it was released in theaters, I think part of the problem was that 'Rome' was too fresh in theater goers minds. If you are a fan of movies like 'Excalibur' and the mini-series 'Rome' (the movie also features Kevin McKidd best known for his role as Lucius Vorenus) the movie is sure to entertain you.
Here is the preview of that movie that is being released on DVD today:
