Rihanna Cancelled Grammy Performance, Boyfriend Chris Brown Arrested on Felony Battery
Rihanna cancelled her performance at last night's Grammy Awards, and did not show up to the awards ceremony. There have been few details issued about why she was unable to attend, with her publicist simply issuing the statement "Rihanna is well. Thank you for concern and support." Interestingly, Rihanna's boyfriend Chris Brown was arrested for felony domestic battery.
Rihanna and Brown were photographed together at Saturday evening's pre-Grammy party put on by Clive Davis, but by Sunday afternoon there were unconfirmed rumors that Rihanna had been in a car accident. Then, by evening word got out that Rihanna wouldn't be attending the Grammys. Shortly after that, the Los Angeles Police Department confirmed that Brown was under investigation for alleged domestic battery that happened around 12:30am Sunday morning.
According to various sources, Brown and an unidentified woman - which many are assuming to be Rihanna - were involved in an arguement in a vehicle that escalated after the two exited the car. People.com reports that "The woman suffered visible injuries and identified Brown as her attacker, according to police."
An industry insider said, "They were arguing. Apparently, Rihanna accused him of checking out other women at Clive Davis' party."
The LAPD has not released the name of the woman, but did confirm that they responded to a 911 call about the incident.
According to a source that spoke with the New York Daily News, the woman was Rihanna and she had multiple bruises, was taken to the hospital for treatment, and released.
Rihanna was up for three awards at this year's Grammys. Brown also had two nominations, and was also scheduled to perform. He too couldn't make it, and was released after paying $50,000 bail. His court date has been set for March 5.

Several public figures have waded into the case, with Roseanne Barr publicly condemning singer Brown on her website this week.

While Brown continued to punch her, she turned around and placed her back against the passenger door. She brought her knees to her chest, placed her feet against Brown's body and began pushing him away. Brown continued to punch her on the legs and feet, causing several contusions.
"Robyn F. began screaming for help and Brown exited the vehicle and walked away. A resident in the neighborhood heard Robyn F.'s plea for help and called 911, causing a police response. An investigation was conducted and Robyn F. was issued a Domestic Violence Emergency Protective Order."
