Indians Television Ratings Slide Over 27% In 2009

If you weren't tuning into Cleveland Indians games this season you were not alone. SportsBusinessJournal has released the television ratings for the 2009 Major League season and not surprisingly the Indians had the sharpest decline in television viewership in the entire league with their ratings on SportsTimeOhio slipping 27.4% with a 2.84. An average of 43,000 households tuned into the Indians last place finish on a daily basis.

The MLB television numbers were down nationally as well because of the lack of exciting pennant races. The Sporting News Reports:

Fox saw its Saturday afternoon numbers drop 10 percent to a 1.8 rating/2.74 million viewers. Fox ended its regular season Oct. 2 with a 1.2/1.7 million average for a Saturday afternoon schedule that had just one game with postseason implications. That's 48 percent off 2008's numbers, when the last weekend of the regular season featured three games that had playoff implications for Fox, drawing a 2.3 rating.

ESPN saw ratings for its franchise series, "Sunday Night Baseball," drop 6 percent, to a 1.6 U.S. household rating, or 2.46 million viewers.

Inside Edition to Air East Cleveland Mayor Admitting to Crossdressing Photos

Last month, East Cleveland Mayor Eric Brewer became the butt of many jokes after photos of him dressed in women's lingerie were distributed throughout the community. Tonight, Brewer will admit on TV that he was indeed the man in the photographs that are believed to have thwarted his re-election attempts.

Brewer will appear on CBS's Inside Edition to discuss the photos. According to a transcript of the interview, Brewer said:

"That is me in those pictures."

He continued to explain that he put on the women's clothes at the suggestion of a girlfriend. The interviewer told Brewer:

"No offense, but you weren't the best looking woman."

To which he retorted:

"To the lady I was with, I looked great. We had a good time."

Since the leaking of the photos, Brewer has called for a criminal investigation. He has not admitted that it was him in the photos until now. Brewer was defeated in a primary election by Council President Gary Norton, who faces no Republican challenger at the polls in November.

Inside Edition airs at 7:30pm tonight (Tuesday) on WOIO Channel 19.

CBS Producer Suspended Over Letterman Extortion Attempt

Emmy Award-winning CBS News producer Robert "Joe" Halderman, who worked on the news program 48 Hours, was arrested Thursday outside the CBS News broadcast center in New York City on charges of attempted grand larceny in the first degree. Halderman allegedly tried to extort $2 million from David Letterman over sexual affairs he had with female employees.

It is rumored that Halderman dated Letterman's former assistant, Stephanie Birkitt, who is said to be one of the women at the center of the extortion case.

Reps for the network issued a statement:

"CBS was made aware of an ongoing police investigation involving David Letterman and an employee at 48 Hours who was subsequently arrested yesterday on charges of attempted grand larceny in the first degree. CBS is cooperating fully with the authorities and the employee has been suspended pending the results of the investigation. Mr. Letterman addressed the issue during the show's broadcast last night, and we believe his comments speak for themselves."

During his late night show on Thursday, Letterman revealed that three weeks ago he got in his car early in the morning and found a package with a letter saying:

Congressman Kucinich & LaTourette Tape Comedy Skits for Jay Leno

The two Ohio congressmen might have vastly different view points, but Democrat Dennis Kucinich and Republican Steve LaTourette have joined forces for a bipartisan comedy skit for NBC's "The Jay Leno Show". The two recorded skits with comedian D.L. Hughley on Capital Hill on Monday.

A spokesman for the show says that they have not yet set an air date for the skits, and neither is willing to share details of their unscripted segments as of yet. Kucinich, however, says that unlike much of what is happening now in Washington, it's stuff that people will actually find entertaining.

LaTourette, clearly impressed by his colleague, calls Kucinich "a comic genius" and adds that the two of them could bill themselves as the next Penn and Teller, except that Kucinich talks too much.

TV Review: Dexter Season 4 on Showtime

Miami is a very dangerous place to be, if you are a murderer who happened to escape the eye of The Miami Police Department. Lucky for Miami residents, Dexter Morgan is there to pick up the pieces. The first four episodes of Dexter have left little doubt that this season is going to be a killer.

Dexter has a new wife, a new address and fortunately for Showtime viewers, the same hobby. It’s hard to believe that this show is still improving after the first three spectacular seasons, but add John Lithgow to an already talented and cohesive cast, and they have created a recipe for even more evil goodness. Sunday night is going to be a thrill for those who have, or are about to, discover how good the combination of Dexter and Californication are.

I have to admit, the only thing not to like about this show, is that each season will eventually end. Dexter leaves you craving more and more of the brutal darkness that haunts his soul, very like a great movie you wish you could see for the first time all over again. The great thing about Dexter is he comes back every week for twelve weeks for an hour of television genius. It is a great way to start off the week.

TV Review: Californication Season 3 on Showtime

I could not wait to put these first 4 episodes into my DVD player and get a sneak peek at the crisp, witty writing and acting of television’s finest comedy that is currently playing. I still do not understand how Season 2 got snubbed out of every Emmy category, since it was heads and shoulders above the run of the mill nominees.

Heather Locklear is Finally Joining the Cast of the New "Melrose Place"

I'll admit, I haven't tuned into the new "Melrose Place" yet. I want to, I just keep missing it. But from what I've heard from those who have watched it, I haven't missed much. Without Amanda Woodward, the show shouldn't have been allowed to air using the name "Melrose Place", and many fans of the original 90's series were understandably upset when it was revealed this past that Heather Locklear would not reprise her role as the infamously bitchy advertising executive. Well folks, it seems the CW finally came to their senses and offered her enough cash to make a comeback. Heather Locklear will be back on set as Amanda Woodward, starting in the November 17 episode.

Locklear's participation in the new series has been a topic of much speculation since the series was unveiled. Executive producers Todd Slavkin and Darren Swimmer issued a joint statement announcing her return:

"We're ecstatic to have the chance to bring Amanda Woodward back to 'Melrose Place.' "Heather's involvement in the show is something we've been working on for some time as we couldn't imagine creating and producing this show without the iconic character's inclusion"

Kate Gosselin Confirms Plans for Her Own Talk Show

During the Southern Women's Show in Charlotte, NC last week, Kate Gosselin confirmed various online reports that she wants her own talk show. The 34-year-old mother of eight said:

"I've been given the gift of gab, so why not use it?"

Gosselin was confirmed by Us Weekly to have joined Paula Deen at a pilot taping in NYC over the weekend. Other women being considered for the show include comedian Julie Gold, CBS talent Rene Syler, and Lee Woodruff, the wife of former ABC World News anchor Bob Woodruff.

Last week Kate got to try her hand at the talk show circuit, guest hosting three episodes of ABC's "The View". She commented that it was "sort of like a career move, so I had to do it."

Curb Your Enthusiasm Remains Best Comedy on Television

The first 5 minutes of the upcoming season of Curb Your Enthusiasm had me wondering if Larry David's hit HBO comedy had finally jumped the shark. I then remembered my advice to a friend who had not seen the show when we were having a discussion about the offbeat comedy. I told her that you have to remember that Curb is like no other show and you have to give it time to get the nuances. It had been on hiatus for well over a year and as soon as I remembered to take my own advice, David's genius started to shine through.

We start the seventh season where we left off ,with Larry living with Loretta Black (Vivica A. Fox). Things between the couple aren't going so well and Larry wants to figure out a way to end the relationship but her health is failing and he doesn't seem to know how to go about it. David also bumps into his estranged wife Cheryl (Cheryl Hines) which complicates matters as he never has really gotten over his true love. The couple's initial screen time together this season shows the chemistry that the pair has developed over the years, and is probably the highlight of the first episode.

"King of the Hill" Ends 13-Year TV Run

After an impressive 13-years on air, "King of the Hill" will be relegated to the world of reruns and nostalgic DVD releases. On Sunday, the show will air its final episode in a special double episode.

In the first half hour of the finale, Bobby gets invited to the school dance by three cute popular girls. A bit of a geek, they clearly aren't from the crowd he typically hangs with. What he must learn is that what seems to good to be true, probably is.

Hank and his buddies also discover, to their horror, that they have run out of home repair projects. They are desperate for some action, so just to stay in it, they build something that no one wants or needs.

The second episode of the night gives Hank a chance, after thirteen long years, to find common ground with his ever-disappointing son. Peggy gets to be happy for both of them.

Personally, I never liked the show and never understood why anyone else would. Just like I'll never understand how anyone can be a fan of "Family Guy." But after thirteen years on TV, there were clearly some fans out there that kept it alive and kicking. It's time has come, however, so enjoy the last two episodes before you'll be forced get your fix with reruns.
