More Human Remains Found in Cleveland Home; Total Now at 6 Dead Bodies

Halloween in Cleveland is a whole lot scarier with a serial killer on the loose. Cleveland police are now on the hunt for 50-year-old Anthony Sowell after the remains of as many as six people were found at the registered sex offenders home.

He is wanted in connection for an alleged attack on a woman in his home in September. When police arrived at the home on Thursday with a search warrant, they found two bodies on the third floor. Because the bodies were in advanced stages of decomposition, the bodies have not yet been identified and their genders not yet determined.

Friday afternoon a third body was uncovered Friday afternoon in a shallow grave in the basement of the home. Cadaver dogs uncovered additional shallow graves in the home's backyard. Investigators say they plan to continue searching the home for more evidence.

Sowell remains at large and on the run. He is considered to be extremely dangerous. He is 6 feet tall and 155 pounds. He wears eyeglasses and frequently sports a mustache. He does not drive a car, and is known to collect and cash in scrap metal. He spent 15 years in prison for a rape dating back to 1989.

Anyone with information on Sowell's whereabouts is asked to contact US Marshals Service Fugitive hotline at 1-866-4-WANTED.

Former Cop's Arrest Story Differs From Gilbert's Version

A former Michigan state trooper tells a different story of Dan Gilbert’s arrest on operation of gambling business than the Cavs owner has been peddling to the news media. Gilbert has made it seem a minor episode, best forgotten.

Gilbert, a billionaire of the mortgage business and owner of the Cleveland Cavaliers, has been a lead proponent of a monopoly casino issue on the November ballot. Issue 3 will give Gilbert a monopoly casino in Cleveland.

A lieutenant detective tells of the arrest of Gilbert when he was a Michigan student. He posed as the father of a gambling debtor. He said a victim told him of a strong-armed threat unless he paid. He also linked a car filled with manure to the betting business as a method of forcing collections of gambling debts.

The detective, John Fiedler recorded the meeting with Gilbert when he went to pay the debt. He said he was shown a ledger with betting data with pages of bets made, some as high as $1,000 or more.

Here is his statement in full:

My name is John Fiedler, and I was a member of the Michigan Department of State Police for 25 years.

Dan Gilbert Among Businessmen Giving Money to Disgraced Detroit Mayor

Wonder if the Pee Dee will headline this story: Four billionaires have “loaned” $240,000 to the former disgrace Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick. One of them our casino king: Dan Gilbert.

The Pee Dee has been supporting in its news columns Gilbert’s desire for a monopoly casino in Cleveland, along with other cities. The vote Tuesday will decide. Issue 3.

The loan to the former mayor, who resigned in Sept. 2008, suggests that Gilbert will spread his money around. It makes you wonder what politicians he might be helping here. Jimmy Dimora, Frank Russo?

The loans have not been repaid.

Kilpatrick was sentenced to four months in jail. The charge was obstruction of justice. However, there were many other charges against him and his administration.

The “loan” was made, according to reports, as he left jail.

Cleveland Sports Commission Makes Plea for Your Support to Bring FIFA World Cup to Cleveland

The City of Cleveland is one of finalists for the 2018 or 2022 World Cup. The soccer event, which is perhaps the most prestigious team event in the world, would bring up to $400 Million to the city and fill hotel rooms and restaurants all over Cuyshoga County. As the the bid reaches the homestretch, the Cleveland Sports Commission is asking you to sign a petition and spread the word to your friends to help bring the games here. They write in an email:

Hi Everyone! I know this is a busy time, but I ask that you please see below and the attached regarding the USA’s bid to bring the 2018 or 2022 FIFA World Cup to the United States and potentially to Cleveland!

Cleveland is one of 27 finalists out of 38 cities who received the RFP, and Cleveland has been asked to show its enthusiasm by driving 50,000 petition signatures to the www.gousabid.com/CLEVELAND website. Should Cleveland land the FIFA World Cup, the economic boost to NE Ohio’s economy could be in excess of $400 Million!

Concert Review — Third Eye Blind

Third Eye Blind performed at the House of Blues in Cleveland Tuesday night. It was also the first CAVS home game so I wasn't really expecting a lot of people to be at the 3eb show. To my surprise I think it was the largest crowd I've ever seen at the House of Blues.

Personally, 3eb will always remind me of high school. They were very popular during my last couple years of HS. The crowd on Tuesday night seemed to be a mixture of fans. Some that were probably big fans in the 90's, like myself and some that seemed younger so possibly fans of the more recent songs.

This was my fourth time seeing 3eb live. One of those times was this past summer at Tower City Amphitheater. The show this past summer and the show on Tuesday night were both to promote the new album titled "Ursa Major" which was released on August 17, 2009. The first single from Ursa Major was "Don't Believe a Word" and was released on June 5, 2009.

Scene Tries to Balance Pee Dee Issue 6 Coverage

The Cleveland Scene this week offers some antidote to the noxious coverage of the Pee Dee on Cuyahoga County reform. Issue 6 ain’t the joy ride into the sunset that the paper would like us to believe.

Issue 6 may be a sunset on real reform.

The Scene’s cover really tells it all: A photo of a menacing hand gun pointed at you. The title: “Give Us Your County and No One Gets Hurt – The story behind the Issue 6 power grab.” Couldn’t say it better.

The article by Damian Guevara (I’m becoming a fan) gives us, if not more facts than the Pee Dee has produced, a better slant on the power issues so crucial to the essence of the new County government Issue 6 would bring to us. You can find it here.

Veteran reporter Anastasia Pantsios writes a piece that debunks the idea the Pee Dee has tried to sell that Issue 6 offers essentially the same kind of reform that Summit County adopted. The title tells it: “Issue 6’s Bait & Switch – Summit County: different process, different result.” Her piece can be found here:

OLBC: A Den of Prostitutes?

CheckSmart, those “nice” payday lending folks who routinely charge customers a whooping, ungodly 391% apr (annual percentage rate), is now partnered with the Congress of Racial Equality (CORE), an organization which hasn’t had a office in Cleveland or Ohio for at least four decades that I am aware of, and the Ohio Legislative Black Caucus (OLBC), that den of black elected officials whose mission is supposed to be looking out for the best interest of the minorities that elected them.

What’s the aim of this unholy triumvirate? To host — hold onto your hats people, this one is so obscene, so far beyond the Pale, that it defies all sense of probity and logic — “Free Seminars on Financial Education.”

Yeah, you read it right: These greedy bloodsuckers that make their living off of the penury of the working class are now putting on “seminars” that purports to teach folks how to manage their money, and they brought their unsavory tactics to Cleveland last week. And are these pricks ever clever: The held it at a college, to make it seem like real, legitimate education. Cute, real cute.

Thieves Make Off With $11,000 After Robbing High-Stakes Cleveland Poker Game

Here's a news story that you don't hear too often in Cleveland. Like a scene from The Sopranos, robbers armed with assault rifles busted into a Cleveland apartment on Monday evening during a game of high-stakes poker, forcing the players to take off their pants before running off with more than $11,000.

Police reports indicate that one of the seven players went outside to smoke when he was confronted by a man pointing a gun at his face. Two suspects then entered the apartment, took the players' money and wallets, and then forced them to remove their pants. Not quite finished with them yet, the suspects then doused the players in pepper spray.

The players made the mistake of listing the card game on a poker web site.
