Movie Review: Johnny Depp Stars in Public Enemies

In Public Enemies, miraculously ageless baby-faced dreamboat weirdo Johnny Depp plays infamous antihero John Dillinger. Dillinger - a smooth-talking, sly gangster with a not so presumable concern for public opinion - leads a gang of crooks in and out of prisons as they manifest a spree of bank robberies across the Midwest.
Set in 1933, four years into the great depression (and the "golden age of bank robberies"), the film adequately chronicles Dillinger's relationships with not only his cronies and lover Evelyn “Billie” Frechette (Marion Cotillard), but also touches upon the friendships established in prison as well as his knack for charming the media and general public. As the film progresses, the once-beloved Dillinger finds himself becoming increasingly lonesome and continually running out of options as seemingly clueless J Edgar Hoover (Billy Crudup) and Pretty Boy Floyd capteur Melvin Pervis (Christian Bale) stay hot on his trail.
Next Michael Moore Feature - Capitalism: A Love Story - Will Hit Screens October 2
After tackling the health care industry with "Sicko" and the Bush administration with "Fahrenheit 9/11", Michael Moore is returning to the issue that began his documentary career: the disasterous impact that corporate dominance and out-of-control profit motives have on the lives of American and citizens of the world. Considering that we are in the midst of a global recession due to corporate greed on Wall Street and in the mortgage industry, his latest film - "Capitalism: A Love Story" - will hit home for a lot of people.
When asked why he decided to make a "love story", Moore stated that it was time for him to make a "relationship movie":
"It will be the perfect date movie," said Moore. "It's got it all -- lust, passion, romance, and 14,000 jobs being eliminated every day. It's a forbidden love, one that dare not speak its name. Heck, let's just say it: It's Capitalism."
Cleveland Mob Figure Danny Greene's Story Coming to the Big Screen

If you know anything about the rich history of the mob in Cleveland odds are that you know the story of Danny Greene rather well. Movieset reveals in a press release announcing the film:
THE IRISHMAN chronicles the rise and fall of Danny Greene (Ray Stevenson), the fiercely proud and vicious Irish-American gangster who muscled in on the Italian mob in 1970s Cleveland, Ohio. Thirty-six bombs shook the streets of Cleveland in 1976 as the legendary, almost mythical Celtic warrior Danny Greene launched a turf war that struck down countless dozens of gangsters. The hard fought death of Danny Greene started a chain reaction of mobsters turning against mobsters that led to the collapse of the Mafia not only in Cleveland, but also in Milwaukee, Kansas City, Los Angeles, and other cities across the United States. The Mafia, or La Cosa Nostra, never recovered.
The film is based on the book "To Kill the Irishman: The War That Crippled the Mafia". Ray Stevenson will portray the lead as Danny Greene with Christopher Walken playing Shondor Birns. Val Kilmer will be featured in the film as well playing a Cleveland police officer who becomes friends with Greene.
Movie Review: Friday the 13th
Anyone who knows me knows I am a horror movie fanatic.
I routinely sport my Fangoria Weekend of Horrors tee. The office in my home is decorated with a number of autographed lithographs from Kyra Schon (Night of the Living Dead) to Robert Englund (A Nightmare on Elm Street series). And over the years I've acquired enough bootleg grindhouse and B-movies that would have piracy lawyers salivating. Growing up, I've loved all the classic slasher and monster films with Friday the 13th being no exception.
Upon hearing of this re-make's release, my first question was how the writers were going to focus more on machette-weilding, hockey mask-donning Jason Voorhees and take the attention away from his mother who played a primary murderous role in the original. All in all, I was pleasantly surprised with the way they handled this dilemma.
With the opening scene set in 1980, the film begins with a quick bit of history. Jason Voorhees was a tormented young boy who had drowned at Camp Crystal Lake. After rising from his watery grave, he and his vengeful mother wreak bloody havoc on the camp for allowing him to drown.
Movie Review: Tom Cruise Stars in Valkyrie

In Valkyrie, Tom Cruise temporarily puts his role of father, religious savior and enthusiastic couch-jumper aside to portray Colonel Stauffenberg -- a smug, aesthetically-challenged renegade soldier who seeks to bring Hitler's reign to an end. After losing an eye, a hand, and two fingers in an ambush, Stauffenberg is recruited by a circle of military leaders to ultimately lead a plan to assassinate the Furher and secure the futures of his wife, children and the German people.
Based on true events, the film follows a group of revolutionaries hoping to win their cause by initiating Operation: Valkyrie -- an emergency action plan set in place by the German government to transfer power to a number of predetermined individuals in the event of Hitler's demise. After gaining approval to amend the operation's verbage to suit his own agenda, Stauffenberg aims to personally eliminate Hitler and devise a conspiracy in which the SS is believed to have been staging a coup d'etat. After the SS is pegged for planning the coup, the door will be open to have them arrested by military reserves. With the SS and Gestapo out of the way, Stauffenberg and his cronies will then have the ability to insert a new Chancellor, bringing an end to Nazi Germany.
Disney Times New Sports Blu-ray Releases Just Right
You have to hand it to the folks over at Disney for their timing of their latest releases on Blu-ray. The marketers over at the company decided to release two of their more recent sports movies this week and it really makes a lot of sense. "The Greatest Game Ever Played" comes just in time for the start of the US Open while "The Miracle", based on the dramatic gold medal win by the USA in hockey, comes right after the NHL Stanley Cup Tournament had just concluded. So how are the actual films? Definitely up to Disney standard.
As you watch "The Greatest Game Ever Played" you will learn of a great amateur golfer by the name of Francis Ouimet. Ouimet, a common man playing a sport played by rich men, was cheered on by the nation in the 1913 U.S. Open. Shia LaBeouf stars as Ouimet with Bill Paxton directing. The story portrays Ouimet as man who is gifted at golf but pulled away from the sport by a father who sees no future in the game for a working class man. In the end, Ouimet is rewarded for sticking with the game he loves and prospers because of it.
Megan Fox Might Play "Buffy" in New Movie
Megan Fox has been the subject of quite a few casting rumors as of late. Two weeks ago she denied reports that she would be playing Wonder Woman, and reportedly passed on playing Lara Croft. Now Fox is reportedly under consideration to play the title role of Buffy Summers in the recently announced big screen relaunch of Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
The new movie won't involve Joss Whedon or be tied to either the 1992 film or TV series starring Sarah Michelle Gellar.
IGN.com contacted the film's producer, Roy Lee, about the rumors. He said:
Movie Review: Taken
Ex-Army special operations soldier tries to balance home life , and his personal specialty of being a human killing machine. Exactly the kind of movie most critics are afraid to say they enjoyed. Enjoying a movie such as this means deriving pleasure viewing psychotic violence in the guise of caring about the main characters loved ones. Well , chalk up THIS reviewer as one who delights in outrageous, yet believable ultra-violence.
Liam Neeson plays Bryan Mills, a retired super soldier. Bryan's old elite squad want him back on their team , but he wants to make up lost time with his 17 year old daughter. The director, Pierre Morel, sugar-coats the father / daughter relationship a tad too much. However, this particular french director imparts a lot of his French heritage within the movie, which makes this flick a foreign flavored piece of cinema. Apparently , the directors unique elements with location , cast , plot, and action worked with the audience , because this movie gobbled up a box office booty of $150,000,000 cash dollars.
Eminem's Walkout at MTV Movie Awards Was Staged
After gay Austrian fashion designer Bruno landed facedown on his lap last night, Eminem walked out of the MTV Movie Awards. Eminem wasn't the slightest bit impressed when with his rear end in his face, Bruno said "Eminem, nice to meet you."
After Eminem bodyguards struggled to get Bruno, played by Sacha Baron Cohen, off of him, the rapper quickly fled the scene.
Was Eminem truly offended by the landing, or was this all just a big ruse staged by MTV? Sources reveal that it was in fact a staged event. Afterall, the camera also just happened to be positioned in the aisle well enough to catch a glimpse of Eminem storming out.
Even more suggestive of the fakery is producer Mark Burnett's comments about the awards show prior to it's start. He told Hollyscoop.com:
"Eminem — It's epic tonight! It's epic!"
Eminem's performance wasn't that amazing, so Burnett must have been talking about something else.
